Gadhen Tashi Choling Monastery was built in the 18th century by His Eminence Karma Chogyel Rinpoche heartiest disciple of 14th karmapa Thekchok Dorji and later continued providence by His Eminence lama Rinzin Jatsho disciple of Kathok Rigzin Tsewang Norbu and again after later 3rd Chungtrul Kuchen Mijur Tempai Wangpo providence well as Known famously name in Kheng Womling (KHORSHIBE LAMA or Sometimes NARTI PONG lama) many of they don’t know 3rd Chungtrul Kuchen well as, because of 3rd Chungtrul Kuchen Rinpoche his residence located just up to hill and in historical accordingly many of old aged Womling peoples by verbal information now a day’s seeing oldest temple are mostly built by 3rd Chungtrul Kuchen Rinpoche in Khengri Namsum in 19th century for subdue for Nagas. And go to more detail information are through biography of 3rd Chungtrul Kuchen Mijur Tempai Wangpo.
The Gadhen Tashi Choling Monastery is one of the oldest and most sanctified temples in Bhutan. The principal guardian LhamoDhud Solma, (in Sanskrit: dharma protector, Shri Devi) which is only one in Bhutan, is immensely believed the strongest deity and have to do offerings (gsolkha) on the daily basis for the peace and prosperity of nearby communities (See the photo in the appendices). It is not incredible that it brings disharmony and destruction to human life if people fail to do offerings on daily basis. However, due to its existence for many years, the temple has become precarious and dangerous for the people (See the photos in the appendices). In Womling community, there are no customary rites and religious ceremonies organized like in other communities on the tenth and twenty fifth days of every Bhutanese month for the people’s spiritual inspiration and perpetual blessings but only annual Zhingdrupis (Ritual practice of Four Conditions to be born in Amitabha Pure Land) conducted. Therefore, people had expected for its renovation but due to lack of budget, they could not carry it out for many years.
His Eminence Chungtrul Kuchen Rinpoche had been well-known for his supernatural power of healing patients suffering from the leprosy since many centuries ago. Today His Eminence the fifth Chungtrul Kuchen Rinpoche heals many non-communicable diseases; psychological disorders and etc. Many people recognize him for his healing power around the country and he is sought after every morning (7-9am) for religious treatment. Then His Eminence Rinpoche’s healing measures for patients are carried out at his small and congested residence in Thimphu and he is also requested so often to perform rituals and treat patients with his extraordinary means of healing around the country (See the photos in the appendices). So it has become his daily schedule and felt a dire need of Healing Centre. Therefore, renovation of old Gadhen Tashi Choling Temple will be able to provide platform for healing thousand patients since it is centrally located in Bhutan.
In addition, as His Majesty the fifth King has said, “All that our country has achieved are the accomplishments of our parents – not ours”, it is universally understandable that our elderly citizens should be socially protected and provided hospitable services as far as possible. For this reason, respective family and community are largely responsible. Under the Royal command of His Majesty the fifth King, Royal Society for Senior Citizens (RSSC) was established in 2011 to make an attempt to lay the foundation stone for human security in the kingdom of Bhutan, especially amongst its old age citizens and they conducted the baseline survey by taking 55 years and above into consideration as an old age in 2012. According to their survey, it is approximately found that there were a sum of 101,563 old age (55years and above) population of which 62% and 38% males and females respectively. Senior citizens comprise 14% of the total population 734,854, estimated from the Labor Force Survey 2012. Since it is a sole product and hard works of elderly citizens what is there available today, they must be able to live to the best of his or her life with dignity and freedom of choice. Therefore, Royal Society for Senior Citizen (RSSC) has found that the followings are the aspirations of the elderly citizens.
- Almost 60% of the old age population prefers to live in rural areas over urban. One exception to thesis that retired armed force personnel prefer urban areas.
- A sum of 74,987 (73.8%) of senior citizens aspires to a spiritual practice, followed by 18.4% wants to be with the family and 7.7% to carry out business.
- Around 98% of senior citizens expresses their desire for special medical facilities particularly they wish doctors to visit their homes and villages.
- Around 95% of senior citizens express the need for spiritual guidance.
- In terms of an absolute number, 95,825 wish to participate in spiritual activities, of which 35.7% wish for group pilgrimage schemes, followed by 34.1% yearns for inviting spiritual masters to the retired homes or to a temporary congregation.
- Around 30.2% of the senior citizens wish for assistance to be able to go into retreats and meditation.
Therefore, another major objective of the project is to create retreat and meditation center for those aspiring or enthusiastic senior citizens where they can access to spiritual practices and guidance.
According to the National Population and Housing Census of Bhutan 2005, there were 3,351 person aged between 0-19 suffering from some form of disability and today 3.4% of the population is living with disability. It is found that most children with disabilities come from poor socio-economic background in Bhutan. Due to this, families were often unable to provide necessary support for these children going for education and vocational trainings even though there are some institutes for becoming themselves self-sufficient and contributing for the socio-economic development of the nation. Some disabled people were not able to go for education owing to the criticism of the community and they were left behind in the villages herding the cattle and doing the domestic works.
Hence, this center can also ensure those disabled people to practice dharma and sanctify themselves through the prostration process, meditation and other religious activities.
Therefore, this project is expected to contribute fulfilling His Majesty’s the fourth and the fifth Kings ‘farsighted visions of Gross National Happiness (GNH) through;
- The renovation of temple for their daily offerings to Lhamo Dhuedselma, (in Sanskrit: dharma protector, Shri Devi).
- The preservation and promotion of healing tradition and culture of His Eminence. Chungtrul Kuchen Rinpoche’s lineage.
- The provision of option or choice for those aspiring old age and disabled people for their spiritual practices.
- The healing or treatment via religious measures.
- The people’s conversation on development plan of community and social issues to tackle during the gatherings on auspicious days for the religious ceremonies.
In order to achieve this project, the nearby community people are devoted enough to volunteer for labor contributions and people also offered His Eminence. The fifth Chungtrul Kuchen Rinpoche with the land to construct guesthouses and retreat homes. All the architectural designs and drawings are completed and the approvals from the higher authorities have been granted. The old temple is connected with the farm roads. Apart from this, the temple is situated on top of the Womling community conspicuously and its serene environment favors the establishment of retreat homes.
